Tenebra

Millennia ago, the world lived in the balance as gods were worshipped in equal measure by people of all races. War was still present as empires were in their fetal stages of thought. The devils and malicious deities thought that the Empyrean Gods only cared about themselves, just as the devils and malignant gods did, and desired to show the mortal races the true face of the gods. A thousand years of planning fell into place as a treaty, the Pact of Those Below and Above, was signed between the Gods of Empyrea, the Gods of Gehenna, and the Devils of the Inferno. This treaty forbade any god or devil's wrath or influence on the flow of a mortal's destiny directly. Any of the three pantheons that violated this Treaty would have their powers reduced sevenfold. Following this, the gods fell into chaos as they had no devils or Gehennan's for the mortal races to persecute into destruction. The mortal races slowly fell into decadence, violence, and cabals that planned the downfall of nations and races.   The worst and best of this upheaval was the Latonan Empire, an empire that had its touches on the southeastern parts of Tenebra. This empire was originally a republic founded by celestial-touched shapeshifters, Versipellis, that fell into monarchical selfishness and greed. They praised the gods equally while pronouncing themselves as gods of Tenebra. This caused the gods of Empyrea to grow resentful and distrustful of each other due to this. They declared that the chances for a Versipellis to manifest their full powers would be poor at best due to passive genetics. This angered the leaders of the Laton as they declared they would begin worshipping the Gods of Gehenna and the Devils of the Inferno for a greater chance to upkeep their dynasty. This drove the Versipellis into near-frenzied instincts but skyrocketed their fertility rates.   Seeing the gods had technically violated their treaty due to emotional distrust, the Gods of Gehenna and the Devils of the Inferno gained greater power over Tenebra. The Empire then spread over all of the globe. Following this, people rioted until a grand crusade was called by the gods as people rose out in a holy rage, and the Great Holy War began. The world burned as violence erupted worldwide in religious fervor. The Empire collapsed in on itself over the course of a century until only a fraction of it remained.   It was in this fraction of a great country that the darkest of conspiracies laid fold. A single devil of low rank, Adrammelech, plotted the infighting of the Devils and Gehennans due to their monolithic plot fulfilling. He saw that they were dividing lands and rolling dice to see who gets what. He whispered lies and forged plots of death until only he remained, alone to absorb the powers of gods and devils. The darkness of Gehenna and the fires of the Inferno combined to form Sheol, the dark plane for which Adrammelech would rule and plot the downfall of the gods of Empyrean.   The Empyreans fell into infighting as they slew each other like dogs cornered in cages. Each god fell, their blood had drenched Tenebra into great change and split the world in two as well as into islands. Only 101 gods remained out the near-infinite as magic was breathed onto the soil and waters of Tenebra along with its people. This magic was no match for Adrammelech's forces as they burst forth out of the vestiges of what remained of the Latonan Empire as the Devil Lands was born.   Drunk and inebriated on this newfound magic, the mortal races fell into even greater depravity as some became obsessed with conquering the concept of Death. This inebriated state fathered the First Liches who soon decimated a great number of the world's populace, which gave rise to the Deadlands. This was only the start of a constantly upending holy war that destroyed many lives and the environment. However, this all paled in comparison to what horrors spawned out of what became Mictlan.   Terrors from beyond the realms seeped into Tenebra and caused madness and destruction wherever they went. Death meant nothing to them. Fear meant nothing to them. Only madness and chaos mattered to these creatures. The gods did battle with these abominations until only 77 remained as most were swallowed by the Eldritch Horrors. The devils also did battle with the creatures, seeing them as competition for their new mortal slaves. The devils lost and retreated back to the Devil Lands.   Both Adrammelech and the remaining gods of Empyrean made a deal to sacrifice great amounts of power to seal off these Eldritch Horrors. The sacrifice would cost a great amount of power and death, but even Adrammelech agreed to the factor of the Terrors from the Dark were too great to handle for himself.   The Sacrifice of the Eternal Powers occurred, which sealed off the Eldritch Terrors. This cost the lives of dozens of gods until there only remained 6 out of what seemed to be an infinite number of gods, excluding Adrammelech. The entire world would see this contrasting light and dark sacrifice, see the consequences of 117 years of holy war, and a new god was born: Captiel.   Adrammelech, seeing the opportunity to gain power in both the physical plane and in Empyrea, poured out of the Hellgate in what was the remanent of the Latonan Empire. The Devil Lands expanded rapidly until one day a great emblem of fury appeared, the Hellwalker. He and his lover defeated Adrammelech and chained his soul to the deepest pit of Sheol for all of eternity. After this event, the Era of Dolor and the Great Holy War ended.   The Era of Dolor continues as slavery, genocide, and tyranny rule the lands nearly 1300 years after the Last Sacrifice of the Gods. Adrammelch slowly plans the downfall of every major civilization in the world, according to the Universale Church, as the Eldritch Horrors look on in cold, calculated apathy at the chaos and decadence that appears once more around their incomprehensibly putrid forms waiting for the moment when their monolithic forms encompass the world in eternal cacophonous splendor...   This era would know the end of its grand cacophony of suffering for a great amount of time thanks to the efforts of the Pantheon of the Black Star, the overthrowing of the Empyrean Gods, the revival of Asherah, Mother of Creation, and the creation of the Accord of Ordinatus. Many nations fell and were recreated and new planes were created in the time after the Second Great Holy War. For over fifty years after 1263, the world knew peace.   Now the advent of colonialism occurs in the newly formed United Confederation of Mictlan by many people in the Queendom of Boudigia. It first started with prisoners being shuffled off to the area until it became too much for both the UCM and United Commonwealth of Tolan to tolerate, thus starting the Colonial Wars . This was interrupted by the advent of many demonic incursions across Kenor and the great need for mercenaries and troops from possible allies. Boudigia had agreed to pull out their colonies and abandoned many of their colonists to fend for themselves over the years that past the Colonial Wars.
